Diving Belcher Barge off South Beach in Miami

We used to go out to see some interesting dive sites around South Beach including the Army Tanks and Tenneco Towers dive sites. The last dive operator that (we dove with regularly) used to charter a boat out that way, but they have since closed down.  When Divers Cove organized a trip with Deco Divers leaving from South Beach, we jumped at the chance to revisit this area and dive the Belcher Barge.

This Belcher Barge dive site was a nice treat for us and a new wreck to add to our South Florida Dive Sites map! This 195-foot barge was sunk in 1985 and lies upside down in 60 feet of water. There are many openings and one can easily swim through some of the structures and see an abundance of life within.

The barge is covered in growth providing shelter and nourishment to a multitude of marine life. We didn’t see any of the stingrays reported to be here often. But it was a great dive and we’d gladly come out again.

Leaving from Deco Divers was easy. Their shop is next to the pier in South Beach at 300 Alton Rd. You can unload right in front of the pier and park (for free as a guest) in the interior visitor parking area. Convenient and easy to find. They do a lot of interesting dive sites further south than our usual shops, so we plan to be back.
