You never know how long you’ll have to sit on the tarmac because of flight delays. Bad weather, mechanical problems, even missing crewmembers, all can lead to unpredictable delays or cancellations.
This happened to us when we went to Honduras on Christmas day. One of the flight attendants didn’t show up that morning and our flight was delayed for over 2 hours as the airline was trying to find someone to fill in. The fact that we were flying early Christmas morning, did not help matters. We didn’t know that one flight attendant is required for a specific number of passengers depending on the type of aircraft.
Having food and water (bought after the security check point) is handy to have when you’re stuck for whatever the reason may be. This is especially true if traveling with children. Keep in mind that the airline doesn’t always deplane the passengers even during long delays.
