‪Bridgetown, Barbados

‪Barbados is located in the Lesser Antilles. Formally part of the British Kingdom, the island obtained its independence in 1966. However, some of the British influence still remains, as driving is on the left side of the road and the afternoon teatime is still customary.

Our cruise ship docked in proximity of Bridgetown’s city-center which made it easy to go explore on our own. Some highlights include the National Heroes Square, the Parliament buildings and St. Michael’s Cathedral. Also, for those who like shopping, Broad Street, is lined with duty-free shops.

Despite having only a few hours in port, we had plenty of time to explore these places after our submarine excursion.

Atlantis Submarine, Barbados

This was our first time on a submarine, and we must admit that overall it was a fun experience. It’s also a great way to take a look below the waves without getting wet. However, we found that the narration in many languages was distracting and often pointless, as the marine life didn’t stay put long enough for all the descriptions!

If you are claustrophobic, you might find the narrow opening challenging although once inside there was plenty of room.

Other fun things to do in Barbados include going on an island tour or a catamaran tour, relaxing on the beach, snorkeling or scuba diving.  For something different, go explore Harrison’s Cave.
