Falmouth, Jamaica

Falmouth is Jamaica’s newest port of call and can accommodate some of the largest cruise ships in the world. It’s located between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay on the northern side of Jamaica. The small town of Falmouth is located only a short walk away from the cruise port. Most tourists stay within the safety of the cruise terminal or go on a shore excursion organized by the ship.

Falmouth Cruise Terminal Area

The most popular excursion is Dunn’s River Falls located approximately one hour away. The visit to the falls is often combined with another attraction like Dolphin Cove, Bamboo Beach or Bobsled Jamaica.

Dunn’s River Falls

We chose to go climb Dunn’s River Falls and picked the excursion that went to Dolphin Cove but seeing dolphins, sharks, birds and other animals confined to small pens and cages broke our hearts…and we would not recommend this.

Dolphin Cove’s Pens

Other excursion choices included: river tubing, zip lining, horseback riding, bobsledding and swimming at Reggae Hill or Bamboo Beach. Perhaps there are more things to do but those were the only activities offered during our cruise—we ended up in Falmouth because our original itinerary was modified because of Hurricane Irma.

Aside from shopping at the tourist shops within the cruise port area, there are American style fast food joints for those in need of a fix!

All places we went happily took US dollars and English with a little Jamaican Patois was spoken…
