Le Havre is a French cruise port located in Normandy, France. More specifically Le Havre is situated at the mouth of the Seine River and the English Channel. Some might be tempted to take a cruise ship excursion to Paris, but we think that with only a few hours in port it’s best to explore the local region. Most famous in the area are the landing beaches of D-Day which are about two hours’ drive from Le Havre.
On the other side of the Seine estuary there is the town of Honfleur which was popular with impressionist painters, among them Claude Monet. From here, the coastline leading to the landing beaches is dotted with a series of charming small towns such as Deauville, Cabourg and Ouistreham.
You can take an excursion to Rouen which is about an hour’s drive from Le Havre. Rouen is the capital of Normandy and is renowned for its spectacular Gothic cathedral, the Notre-Dame de Rouen. It’s reminiscent of the Notre-Dame de Paris which sadly was damaged by fire in April 2019. Rouen is also the historical place where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake. You can visit the Joan of Arc Church built in her honor.
