Venice is a popular Italian cruise port and adding a few days before or after your cruise is definitely worth it. There is a lot to see and do in Venice and the food is delicious. There are no cars in Venice and locals and visitors alike must walk or take a boat to get to where they want to go.
Getting lost in the city’s back alleys or splurging on a gondola tour are fun ways to explore Venice.
But if you only have a few hours in the city, head over to Piazza San Marco. Although often crowded, especially when there are multiple cruise ships in town, this is where you’ll find some of Venice’s most famous landmarks: St Mark’s Basilica, Palazzo Ducale and the Campanile. Start with the palace to avoid the crowds since cruise ship groups swarm the basilica in the morning and visit the palace later on. You’ll beat the rush and avoid waiting in line.
