The Great Elephant Migration on Miami Beach

We recently went to Miami Beach to see the Great Elephant Migration exhibit which was part of Miami Art Week 2024.

The impressive life-sized sculptures of a herd of Elephants are definitely something you don’t see every day on Miami Beach.  The Coexistence Collective, which is a group of 200 artisans put together the display which was designed by Shubhra Nayar.

Interestingly enough, the elephant sculptures are constructed out of the lantana camara plant, which is actually an invasive weed threatening the natural habitat of elephants in India.

The purpose of the elephant exhibit is to bring awareness about the coexistence of people with animals. The funds raised from the sale of the elephants go to support different conservation efforts.

Living just north of Miami, for us, even going into Miami is considered somewhat of a day trip, but it was worth it.

Good to know:

Parking is pretty limited but with some patience we finally got a spot one street up from the event. Most people will spend only a short time there so a parking spot will become available, and you will be rewarded with a fun experience.
