We love to travel and over the years, I’d like to say we have learned the ropes to most travel experiences including cruises, all inclusive resorts, and even just plain ordinary car rentals and flights. That said, there is always a first time for everyone, and that can lead to all kinds of embarrassing situations if you don’t know what to expect. Of course, the good thing is that typically all those people on the cruise or at the resort will likely never see you again after your holiday, so who cares… just laugh along.
Sometimes however, we have to wonder what people are thinking or whether they are thinking at all when they ask some of the questions we have heard. Below is a collection we’ve gathered from various sources over the years. No names will be revealed, so just read and laugh.
Funny questions and comments posted on review boards or overheard on cruise ships, at hotels, or on guided tours:
- No one told us that there were fish in the ocean. The kids were startled!
- There was too much sand on the beach.
- Do we have to get wet when going snorkeling?
- Are the islands completely surrounded by water?
- What do you do with the ice sculptures after they melt?
- Does the elevator go to the front of the ship?
- Does the crew sleep on board?
- Do we have to get off the ship to take a shore excursion?
- Are the outside cabins still inside the ship?
- What time is the midnight buffet?
- Has this ship ever sunk?
- Why didn’t they build the ruins closer to the cruise port?
- What time will the whales come by?
- How far above sea level is the ship?
- What deck do the tour buses park on?
- Are the glaciers here all year round?
- Can you exchange my US$ for Alaskan?
- Will I get Canadian money at the ATM in Egypt?
- How do you work the microwave? Oh wait; it’s a safe!
- How do we know which photographs belong to us?
- Asking the guide to stop for a bite to eat in the middle of the desert. He offered to help her catch a snake!
- Asking the guide if it was ok to pet the lions. He said it was a once in a lifetime experience!
Remember, no matter what, you are on vacation to relax and have fun. If you notice one of these slip out of your mouth before your brain can catch up with it, just laugh along and blame it on the sun, the exotic location, or simply being on vacation.
