Oceania

Oceania includes Australia, New Zealand and many South Pacific Islands such as French Polynesia, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga. It’s a vast continent that covers an area of 8,525,989 km2 (3,291,903 sq. mi) in the South Pacific. Hawaii is part of the United States but since it’s located in Oceania, we have also included it here.

Aside from Hawaii, we haven’t had the chance to explore much of Oceania, but we loved the places that we had the good fortune to visit. We did a cruise in French Polynesia’s Society Islands Archipelago and also visited Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.

See our post: Cruising the South Pacific

This is a long and expensive flight from North America and maybe it out of reach for many. We even questioned how different French Polynesia could be from the much closer Caribbean Islands. But we liked what we saw. This was a bucket list trip for us, and we hope to be able to return one day. It remains one of our favorite travel destinations.

What’s not to like about a place with warm crystal-clear water, friendly people, and exotic scenery?
