Barcelona, Port of Call in Spain

This is a wonderful port of call to take a Mediterranean Cruise or to sail away to the Canary Islands. There is so much to see and do in Barcelona that adding a few days, before or after your cruise will give you time to explore this lovely city. Also, it’s always a good idea (in case of flight delays or cancellations) to arrive at least a day prior to sailing day. So why not make the most of it and spend time in Barcelona and enjoy more of what this exciting city has to offer?

Why You Should Add  Pre- and Post-Cruise Extensions to Your Cruise

There are lots of restaurants, shops and activities in proximity to the cruise port and taking a shore excursion isn’t necessary. Just take the Hop-on Hop-off bus to get to the most important sights, including Gaudi’s masterpiece, the Sagrada Família.

If you prefer walking, head over to La Rambla, a busy and animated street near the old town and Port Vell. The esplanade is only a short distance from the port, and you will see Barcelona’s aquarium as well as the Catalonia History Museum. There is also a nice sandy beach near the museum.

You might want to consider a day trip to Montserrat, a hill-side monastery located about an hour’s drive from the cruise port. A nice way to end a cruise is to take one last shore excursion on disembarkation day and enjoy one last sightseeing adventure before going home. They will also take care of your luggage for you and drop you off at the airport.
