SeaLife Flex Connect Camera Frame System Review

I had purchased my Olympus TG-5 (see article here) with a waterproof housing and the Sea and Sea YS-03 strobe kit. The strobe came with a frame which was ok for a while but started getting loose and wobbly and I was not very confident in it being secure. And I wasn’t about to extend it with more accessories as I started thinking about video lights. But the SeaLife Flex Connect Camera Frame System looked much sturdier and easier to customize to get the setup I wanted.

When contemplating the TG-5, I had also looked at SeaLife cameras, but opted for the TG-5 for its microscope mode and amazing capabilities for macrophotography. I had seen these cameras in action with other divers on a dive trip in Grand Cayman and was impressed with what it could do and ended up getting the Olympus.

One thing I did love about the SeaLife however was their modular frame kit with flex connect attachments for arms, grips, tables, lights, and extensions. When I saw that we could mount the Olympus TG-5 underwater case onto this setup I was hooked, and this became our new replacement frame.

I got the flex connect dual tray, with a grip on each side. This worked well with ball joint adaptors, but later added flex connect arms to have more movement for my lights. SeaLife also has rigid ball arms which are another option. There’s lots of accessories to choose from.

I later found a cold shoe adaptor which can also attach directly onto the camera housing to have a third light or strobe. This extends my setup giving me two video lights and a strobe.

What more can a girl want?

Conclusion

The SeaLife Flex Connect Camera Frame System is versatile and makes it possible to set-up my camera for the type of photos I plan to take. I also appreciate that I can quickly assemble and disassemble my setup to pack it for a scuba diving vacation.

They did warn me that underwater photography could get expensive quickly! Another good reason to protect your investment. See my article about our travel case!
